Lanesborough Planning Board Approves Self-Storage Site Plan With Color, Compliance Conditions

LANESBOROUGH — September 15, 2025 — Lanesborough Planning Board approves four-building self-storage facility on South Main Street, but zoning question remains open. The board voted unanimously Monday to approve the site plan for MCP Lanesboro Properties, LLC, to construct metal mini-storage warehouses at 405 South Main Street on the former Skyline Country Club grounds, requiring earth-tone exterior colors with minimal contrast between doors and siding and written evidence of use compliance from Building Inspector Brian Duvall before a building permit can issue. Board member Joe flagged that the town may have removed self-storage as an explicitly permitted use in a prior bylaw revision, telling the board, "I pulled some of the old zoning and one of the books had self-storage in it — I looked it up online and we kind of got rid of that." Planning coordinator Andrew noted the use-table question falls to the building inspector, not the Planning Board, as the zoning enforcement authority. The board also voted unanimously to appoint member Renee as the town's Berkshire Regional Planning Commission delegate and to continue the current chair in her role, and agreed to begin outdoor recreation and limited business zoning reviews at its October meeting.
